Research-led Interface Design
Name, Title
The SCN project focused on improving an existing system that had become outdated in both technology and usability. The goal was to make the software easier to use while supporting a shift toward more modern, connected capabilities.
As a UX/UI designer, I worked on simplifying workflows, improving clarity, and helping the system evolve without disrupting how people currently do their jobs. I organized and led an on-site observation study, visiting end-users in their actual work environment.
Pain Points:

Tools were disconnected, requiring users to jump between systems

Much of the workflow relied on manual steps and workarounds
Field Observation

Seeing users in context made a big difference! It showed things that wouldn’t have come up in meetings or virtual interviews.

Observed people actually move between tools and task and saw where they slow down or get stuck

The workarounds they’ve built to deal with system limitations

What information they rely on most in time-sensitive situations

One of the biggest takeaways was that even though the system was outdated, users had adapted to it.

Any improvements needed to respect those habits while still making things better.
Findings

Developed workflow to map user steps.
The design work was done in Figma, using the Material UI (MUI) design system as a foundation. This helped keep the interface consistent while speeding up iteration and handoff. Figma was used throughout the process for exploration, iteration, and collaboration.
